Mavericks having a fantastic season

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 9 January 2007 at 9:59 pm

The Mavericks are playing great basketball and they have the best record in the NBA at 27-8. As well as the Mavericks have played this season, they are still only 3 games ahead of the Spurs in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference. This Mavericks team is doing it with defense which is not what you usually think of when you think of Mavericks basketball. The Mavericks are holding opponents to only 91.9 points per game which is tied for 4th in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Mavs are also hitting the boards hard as they are snatching 75.1% of the rebounds at the defensive end (4th in the league) and they get 51.9% of the total rebounds which is #5 in the league. The forwards have fueled the offense for the Mavericks this season. Dirk Nowitzki is averaging 23.9 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Josh Howard has really stepped up his game as he’s averaging 19.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. The Mavericks are a serious threat to win the NBA Championship this season.

Things were looking good for the Mavericks entering the 4th quarter as they were protecting a 77-68 lead over the Lakers. But in the 4th quarter the Lakers blasted the Mavericks 33-21 to end the Mavs 13-game winning streak. Can’t blame Dirk Nowitzki for this loss as he had 29 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists. Josh Howard also had a good game with 20 points and 9 rebounds.

Devin Harris playing well

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Sunday 7 January 2007 at 11:28 pm

Young point guard Devin Harris has really picked up his game as of late. In his last 7 games, Harris has averaged 29.9 minutes, 13.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game. The Mavericks need Harris to look a little more for his own shot as the Mavericks don’t get much offense from their centers.
