The Mavericks are taking over in the Western Conference

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 6 February 2007 at 11:46 am

As hot as the Phoenix Suns have been this season, the Mavericks are just quietly dominating the NBA. The Mavericks have won 4 games in a row and 9 of their last 10! The Mavericks are 39-9 on the season and now have a 1 game lead on the Suns for the #1 seed in the West and they have a 7 game lead in the Southwest Division over the San Antonio Spurs. The Mavericks have been excelling because of their defense as they’ve held their opponents to only 93.2 points per game this season. The Mavericks have held their opponents under 100 points in 35 of their 48 (72.9%) of their games this season. They have excelled in both close games as they are 8-2 in games decided by 3 points or less and blowouts as they are 20-5 in games decided by 10 or more points. If the Mavericks get the #1 seed in the Western Conference this year, it will be hard for anyone to beat them in the playoffs.

The Mavericks don’t use their rookies much

Blogged under Rookie Reports, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Sunday 4 February 2007 at 12:12 am

The Mavericks goal is to win a Championship every season so they tend to play their veterans the whole game. 1st round pick Maurice Ager hasn’t played too well as a rookie. The guard has played in 19 games and he’s averaging 3.7 minutes, 1.3 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.2 assists. He’s also shooting poorly as he’s only hit 30% of his shots from the floor.

Guard Joe Juan Barea has also been awful. He’s played in 12 games and he’s averaging 2.9 minutes, 0.8 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists. He’s also been horrible at shooting the ball as he’s only hit 23.5% of this shots.

Forward Pops Mensah Bonsu has played in 1 game. He played 3 minutes and collected 1 rebound.
