Don’t forget how good Dirk Nowitzki played during the regular season. He might not have showed up against the Warriors in the playoffs but he was outstanding all season for the Mavericks. In 78 games, Nowitzki averaged 36.2 minutes, 24.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He was had an excellent shooting season from everywhere on the basketball court. He nailed 50.2% of his shots from the floor, 41.6% from 3-point range and 90.4% from the free throw line. He deserved the MVP Award that he got.

Nowitzki’s career numbers keep improving as he continues to even get better as the years go on. In 681 career games, he has averaged 36.5 minutes, 22.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.0 steal and 1 block per game. Nowitzki’s shooting %’s keep going up too. Nowitzki has nailed 47% from the floor, 38.1% from 3-point range and 86.9% from the free throw line. Look for his numbers to continue to improve because he’s the best player on the Mavericks without a doubt.

The Dallas Mavericks Choked!

For only the 3rd time in 23 years since the NBA went to a 16-team format in the playoffs did a #8 seed knock out a #1 seed! Dirk Nowitzki disappeared when his team really needed him as Don Nelson devised a plan to stop him on the court. It was amazing to see the Mavericks show no pride tonight and take the beating that the Golden State Warriors gave them! It was amazing to see owner Mark Cuban answering questions after the game with tears in his eyes as he probably came to realize that the coach he treated so badly was much better than the one he replaced him with.

Golden State Warriors 111, Dallas Mavericks 82

The Warriors ambushed the Mavericks tonight and ended their season with a beatdown at the Oracle Arena! The Mavericks only shot 37.6% from the floor and they were outrebounded 53-38 by the Warriors and those were two of the biggest reasons for the loss. Another huge reason was the third quarter in which the Warriors outscored the Mavericks 36-15! It looks as if Don Nelson badly outcoached Avery Johnson with his halftime adjustments! Josh Howard led the way for the Mavericks with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Jerry Stackhouse did a good job off of the bench with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Jason Terry (13 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists) and Devin Harris (13 points, 2 rebounds and 9 assists) both got abused on defense by the Warriors. Rookie Maurice Ager played the whole 4th quarter and he played well as he scored 10 points. Dirk Nowitzki totally disappeared tonight when his team really needed him…..not exactly an MVP performance! He only shot 2 for 13 from the floor and wound up with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists. The Warriors won this series 4-2!

The Mavericks were in deep trouble late in the 4th quarter but the real league MVP, Dirk Nowitzki showed up big time. He finished up with 30 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists. Josh Howard also had a great game with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Devin Harris got abused again by Baron Davis but at least he made him work on defense as Harris scored 16 points, grabbed 3 rebounds and dished out 7 assists. Jerry Stackhouse had a solid game off of the bench with 15 points and 3 rebounds. DaSagana Diop had another solid game with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Jason Terry had a rough night with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists on 4 of 11 shooting from the floor. The Warriors still lead this series 3-2.
