The Mavericks have selected guard Renaldas Seibutis in the 2nd round despite the fact that he might not come to the U.S. to play ball. Seibutis is 6′5″, 180 pounds and he has some skills as a shooting guard. He played in 154 games in Lithuania and he averaged 10.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.9 steals per game. Seibutis is a good shooter as he hit 52.1% from the floor, 39.3% from the three point range and 80.3% from the free throw line.

The Mavericks draft Nick Fazekas in the 2nd round

Blogged under The Draft Report, Bloglockers, Big Mavericks News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 30 June 2007 at 8:11 am

Nick Fazekas was an outstanding basketball player at Nevada and his skill set is very similar to that of Dirk Nowitzki except he isn’t as tough as him yet. Fazekas is a big guy at 6′11″, 235 pounds and he looked like a man playing against boys at Nevada. In 131 games at Nevada, Fazekas averaged 18.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.5 blocked shots per game. Fazekas is an outstanding shooter from anywhere on the basketball court. He hit 53.2% of his shots from the floor, 34.1% from three point range and 81.5% from the free throw line. He will start his career as a backup but he could develop into a starter quickly.

The Dallas Mavericks Choked!

Blogged under The NBA Playoffs, Bloglockers, Big Mavericks News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 4 May 2007 at 12:33 am

For only the 3rd time in 23 years since the NBA went to a 16-team format in the playoffs did a #8 seed knock out a #1 seed! Dirk Nowitzki disappeared when his team really needed him as Don Nelson devised a plan to stop him on the court. It was amazing to see the Mavericks show no pride tonight and take the beating that the Golden State Warriors gave them! It was amazing to see owner Mark Cuban answering questions after the game with tears in his eyes as he probably came to realize that the coach he treated so badly was much better than the one he replaced him with.

“You are the weakest link, goodbye!”

If it were any other team I would probably think that the Mavericks still had a good chance to pull this out, but Don Nelson just owns them. The Warriors might get bounced in 5 games in the second round, but they are just dominating the defending Western Conference champions at this point. I’m glad to see it happen too; my Heat won’t be around to do it to them again this year.

Maybe Mark Cuban is feeling bad that he took a dump on old Don now. At least Mark will be able to focus on his other business ventures in a few more days. Dallas Mavericks, you are the weakest link, GOODBYE!

The Dallas Mavericks vs. The Golden State Warriors

The Warriors strut into this series having swept the Mavericks during the season. The Warriors averaged 111.7 points per game while allowing the Mavericks to score only 95.3 points per game. This is the first time the Warriors have made the playoffs since 1994! Don
